A unique relic of the B-52 “Flying Fortress” remains in the heart of Hanoi after 50 years

After over a year of restoration, the B-52 “Flying Fortress” remains in Huu Tiep Lake (Hanoi) have been preserved in their original location after 50 years. This site symbolizes the victory of the military and people of the capital in the “Hanoi – Dien Bien Phu in the Air” campaign of 1972.

Huu Tiep Lake ( B-52 Lake)

Huu Tiep Lake is in Ngoc Ha Ward, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi. It holds the wreckage of the B-52 bomber shot down over Hanoi on December 27, 1972. The government has recognized the site as a national historical relic.

Facing degradation and the risk of becoming a ruin, Hanoi urgently launched a project to restore and preserve Huu Tiep Lake as a national historical relic in April 2021. After more than a year of intensive efforts, the site reopened to visitors on the 50th anniversary of the “Hanoi – Dien Bien Phu in the Air” victory.
