Hanoi Half-Day Tour to Historic Sites

This half-day tour was designed for those wanting to understand more about Thang Long- Hanoi with the places not included in a normal city tour. The capital is more than 1000 years old and Hanoian is always proud to have such a stubborn city during the wars. We will visit Thang Long ancient Citadel, a cultural complex that comprises Thang Long Imperial City during the dynasties of King Ly, King Tran, and King Le, and Hanoi Citadel during the Nguyen Dynasty. Through the ups and downs of Vietnamese history, the remains of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long are roughly where the Hanoi Citadel lies today. We will bike on the most beautiful street in Hanoi named  Phan Dinh Phung with hundreds of big trees. One place you should not miss is Huu Tiep Lake. Located in an area of Hanoi called Ngoc Ha (Flower Village), an American B-52 that was shot down during the Christmas bombing in 1968 (1972) sits rusting in a small pond surrounded by a busy market. The French Quarter, also known as the Ba Dinh District, reflects Hanoi’s colonial past. It was designed by the French in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, featuring wide tree-lined boulevards, colonial-era buildings, and architectural styles that blend French and Vietnamese influences.

2 PM: Departure

Meet up at Hanoi Bike Tour Workshop. After a short brief information about the traffic and how to ride a bike in Hanoi, we started to cycle to Thang Long ancient Citadel located in Hoang Dieu St. We will visit Doan Mon Gate, Kinh Thien Palace, Hau Lau, and The Northern Gate. Keep walking north, we will see house D67, an underground tunnel that enabled the military to flee to other parts in case of a raid. There, you can understand how the Vietnamese military fought to protect the capital and that’s the place where General Vo Nguyen Giap used to work and live.

Long Bien Bridge and French Quarter

After visiting Thang Long Citadel, we continue cycling to Huu Tiep Lake and see the B-52 Memorial. A B52 was shot down by North Vietnamese SA-2 surface-to-air missiles during the Christmas Offensive of December 1972. Continue Cycling across Long Biên Bridge offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Red River and its surroundings. You can witness the bustling river life, with boats navigating the waters and locals fishing along the banks. Then, The French Quarter provides numerous opportunities for photography, with its elegant buildings, historical monuments, and vibrant street scenes. Capture the contrast between old and new, traditional and contemporary Hanoi.
