5 Familiar Cycling Spots for Hanoians
Cycling Spots have long been essential for many, not just for commuting but also for leisurely rides and enjoying life’s beauty. Whether your bike is new or old, high-end or common, finding the right spots enhances the experience.
West Lake Loop – Lakeside Road
It is a legendary spot for cyclists of all levels, from amateur to professional, where perhaps everyone has challenged themselves with a loop around it at least once. A complete loop around the lake is about 17 km, enough to warm up for the morning.

Not only is it convenient for exercise and fitness purposes, but West Lake also attracts cyclists with its fresh and airy atmosphere, providing a refreshing break before diving into the hectic workday in the bustling city. If you ride in the early morning, the sunrise is an unmissable scene for cyclists here, and likewise, the sunset is equally worthy of admiration.
Additionally, during lotus season, this is an ideal place to take photos, sip tea, and enjoy the fragrant scent of the lotuses.
Vincom Village – Vincom Center Long Bien
Located on the other side of the Chuong Duong Bridge in Long Bien, compared to Hanoi’s inner city, the residential area of Vincom Village offers an extensive and spacious cycling area. You won’t have to worry about riding at any time of day to avoid traffic jams, as this area is always quiet and comfortable for cycling. The cycling paths are surrounded by trees, meticulously planned by billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong and his team, creating a fresh and airy atmosphere, complemented by many lakes within the Vincom Village residential complex.
This area is also a training and gathering spot for small and medium-sized cycling clubs in Hanoi, most notably the Long Bien District Sports Cycling Club. If you’re an amateur cyclist, don’t feel too self-conscious about your bike, as you’ll encounter many expensive models ranging from tens of millions to hundreds of millions of dong. They are professional racers who need to stand out.
Cycling Spots Hoan Kiem Lake
Mentioning West Lake without Hoan Kiem Lake – a symbol of Hanoi – would be a significant omission. Located in the heart of the capital, this place is ideal for those who want to exercise early in the morning and late in the afternoon.
While cycling, you can admire the hanging willows by the lake, the cool, clear water, or the ancient and solemn Turtle Tower, Pen Tower, and Ngoc Son Temple, which have existed for thousands of years. A complete loop around the lake is only about 1.75 km, so in professional races, such as the recent Ton Hoa Sen – VTV Cup cycling race, cyclists had to ride exactly 50 laps. 5-10 laps for those fitness training is probably a reasonable number.

In addition to cycling, many other morning exercise and relaxation activities take place around Hoan Kiem Lake, such as aerobics, laughter yoga, and jogging.
Thang Long Boulevard
Just hearing the name probably gives you an idea of the terrain and the route. Indeed, this is a stunning path in terms of both road quality and surrounding scenery for cyclists. It’s a preferred training location for cycling teams due to its not overly-crowded nature, straight route, and lack of dangerous rough patches.
Moreover, this route leads to several suburban recreational and resort areas outside Hanoi, such as Bao Son Paradise, Dong Mo, and Ban Xoi. These are ideal destinations for those looking to change the atmosphere during holiday breaks with friends and family.
Nhat Tan Bridge – Dong Tru Bridge
Inaugurated at the end of 2014 and the beginning of 2015, the routes leading to these two bridges are incredibly wide, long, and beautiful. Cyclists can enjoy riding at full speed on their bikes without worrying about many obstacles or sharp turns. The wide lanes also ensure safety, avoiding collisions with cars or other vehicles.
The convenient location is another plus for this route. From the city center, you can head towards Hoang Quoc Viet – Hoang Hoa Tham, then continue on Vo Chi Cong Road, which leads directly to Nhat Tan Bridge. If you are closer to Long Bien, you can start from Cau Chui or National Highway 5 and head towards Dong Tru Bridge to begin your journey. Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 of Noi Bai Airport have been frequent and familiar “landing” points for cyclists throughout the past year.
