The Green Journey Cycling Festival “West Lake Lotus Colors”: 7,000 Participants Set a Vietnam Record

The centerpiece of the Green Journey Cycling Festival “West Lake Lotus Colors,” organized by the People’s Committee of Tay Ho District on the morning of July 14, 2024, as part of the Hanoi Lotus Festival. The event saw the participation of 7,000 people and marked the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 – October 10, 2024), as well as the 18th Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Hanoi for the 2024 – 2029 term. The activity set a new Vietnam record.

To organize the Green Journey Cycling Festival “West Lake Lotus Colors,” the organizers received significant support and cooperation from various units: The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi, Hanoi Moi Newspaper, The Hanoi Youth Union, Jeep Bicycle Vietnam Company, The Hanoi Cycling – Motor Sports Federation, The West Lake Boat Racing Club, The Vietnam Off-road Pickup Truck Club, Vietnam-Singapore International Trading Company Limited, Silver Surf Vietnam Jetboard Club, Thong Nhat Hanoi Joint Stock Company, TH True Water, Clara Vietnam Investment and Development Company, and Agribank.

Promoting Environmental Awareness

According to Nguyen Dinh Khuyen, Chairman of the Tay Ho District People’s Committee, the Green Journey Cycling Festival “West Lake Lotus Colors” aims to promote the image of Tay Ho District to friends both domestically and internationally. It also encourages the public to use bicycles as a mode of transportation to reduce traffic congestion, promotes cycling for health, and calls on everyone to protect the environment for a greener life.

This large-scale sports event involved officials, leaders, and residents from the 8 wards of Tay Ho District, along with cycling enthusiasts from districts such as Dong Anh, Hoan Kiem, Dong Da, Ba Dinh, Long Bien, Cau Giay, Bac Tu Liem, and Nam Tu Liem. Participants also included members of sports cycling clubs and students from various high schools: Tay Ho, Cau Giay, Yen Hoa, Phan Huy Chu – Dong Da, Hoang Cau, Pham Hong Thai, Chu Van An, Nguyen Trai – Ba Dinh, Phan Dinh Phung, and Xuan Dinh.

This event also provides an opportunity to share a passion for sports, a love for nature, and environmental friendliness, and to continue building solidarity and friendship between Tay Ho District and neighboring districts.

A 15 km Cycling Procession Around West Lake

The Green Journey Cycling Festival “West Lake Lotus Colors” was held for the first time in Tay Ho District, with more than 7,000 cyclists riding around West Lake. The cycling procession covered a distance of 15 km, starting from the opening point at Lac Long Quan Flower Garden and passing through 7 checkpoints around West Lake, including West Lake Flower Valley, Tay Ho Temple, Thang Loi Hotel, Tran Quoc Pagoda, Nguyen Dinh Thi Flower Garden, Van Cao – Trich Sai Intersection, and Lac Long Quan Coconut Grove.

This was the first time that Tay Ho District organized the cycling festival, aimed at promoting the natural beauty, people, and tourism of Tay Ho to both domestic and international friends. The procession not only took place on the streets around West Lake but also included participation from various water and aerial sports clubs. Highlights included a performance by 7 paragliders from the Hanoi Paragliding Club and Viet Sing International Trading Company, as well as 20 jetboards from the Silver Surf Vietnam Jetboard Club.

The event set a Vietnam record with 7,000 participants.
