
Opening of the 2025 Open Cycling Race “Journey Following the Footsteps of Buddha King
On the morning of February 12, 2025, at the Bac Giang Provincial Sports Arena, the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Bac Giang Province held the opening ceremony of the 2025 Bac Giang Open Cycling Race, titled “Journey Following the Footsteps of Buddha King.” This event is one of the highlights of the 2025 Bac Giang Culture and Tourism Week, attracting many cyclists and visitors.

Mai Son, Standing Vice Chairman of the Bac Giang Provincial People’s Committee and Head of the Organizing Committee for Bac Giang Culture and Tourism Week, attended the opening ceremony. Representatives from the Vietnam Cycling and Motor Sports Federation were also present. The event welcomed many cyclists, cycling clubs, and media agencies from the province.
The “Journey Following the Footsteps of Buddha King” open cycling race promotes and showcases the cultural heritage of Bac Giang Province, especially historical sites like Tay Yen Tu. The event also aims to introduce the province’s landscapes and people to domestic and international visitors. Additionally, it serves as an opportunity to encourage sports activities, promote health, and foster a stronger athletic spirit within the community.
In its inaugural edition, the race has attracted nearly 200 male and female cyclists from 14 cycling clubs within and beyond the province. The competition features four race categories, with three dedicated to male cyclists, divided into age groups: 18-34, 35-45, and 46-62 years old, each covering a 70 km distance. Meanwhile, female cyclists aged 18-60 will compete in a 50 km race.
The race is not just a sporting competition but also an opportunity for cyclists to experience and explore scenic routes and famous cultural landmarks of Bac Giang.

The race officially began at exactly 7:30 a.m. Male cyclists started from the Bac Giang Provincial Sports Arena, passing through Bac Giang City and the districts of Luc Nam, Luc Ngan, and Son Dong before reaching the finish line at Tay Yen Tu Spiritual and Ecotourism Complex in Son Dong District. This destination is one of the most renowned tourist attractions in northern Vietnam, known for its pristine natural beauty and unique spiritual and cultural values.
Female cyclists started from Kham Lang Junction in Luc Nam District, passed through Luc Ngan District, and also finished at Tay Yen Tu.
Despite light rain and slippery roads, the cyclists remained highly determined. Participants pushed their limits to overcome challenges, showcasing their skills and passion for the sport.
At the end of the race, the Organizing Committee will award four prize sets to the best athletes in each category. Each set includes one first prize, one-second prize, one third prize, and seven consolation prizes. The total prize value reaches 100 million VND, significantly motivating the cyclists who conquered the challenging course.
