Hanoi, with its ancient streets connected to historical sites, is becoming an ideal destination for those who enjoy taking in the scenery by bicycle. This mode of transport allows for a gentle, immersive exploration, bringing visitors closer to nature. Bike tourism, a growing trend, offers a slower pace of travel that enables tourists to appreciate the city’s beauty and culture in a more intimate and environmentally friendly way.

In the past, tourists typically traveled by car to sightseeing spots, while those who preferred a slower way to admire Hanoi’s streets would opt for bike rides or walking. However, recently, bike tourism has emerged as a way for visitors to thoroughly explore tourist attractions, stop and discover at their own pace, and improve their health. This shift toward cycling reflects a broader movement toward more sustainable and interactive forms of travel.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kieu Trinh (from Me Linh District, Hanoi) shared: “Hanoi has many places for sightseeing and relaxation. Normally, we would travel by car or motorbike for sightseeing, but now we can also explore by bicycle.” This is a sentiment echoed by many locals and tourists alike, as bike tourism allows for a more connected and leisurely exploration of the city.

Ms. Le Thi Thanh Huyen (from Do Luong District, Nghe An) said: “I find the combination of cycling and tourism very interesting. It’s comfortable and good for health.” This growing interest in bike tourism reflects the appeal of combining physical activity with cultural exploration.

Taking advantage of the existing strengths, the Hanoi Department of Tourism launched a bicycle tour at the end of last year: “Thang Long Night – Hanoi.” The tour takes visitors through famous landmarks of the capital, where they can explore the history, and cuisine, and enjoy the beauty of the city after dark. This is a perfect example of how bike tourism is helping to showcase Hanoi uniquely and dynamically.

Mr. Leo (a tourist from Germany) said: “I enjoy this experience. Riding a bike around the city to take in the beautiful views and see things that we wouldn’t normally notice.” His experience highlights how bike tourism can offer new perspectives and a deeper connection to the places visited.

Ms. Phung Thi Hoang Anh (a representative from the “Thang Long Night – Hanoi” bicycle tour operator) explained: “We have visited many places by car or other means, but cycling not only reduces the environmental impact, but also helps relax, entertain, and promote good health. We want to use this form of tourism to showcase Hanoi to everyone.” Bike tourism is becoming an essential part of Hanoi’s tourism offerings, highlighting its commitment to sustainable travel practices.

Mr. Tran Trung Hieu (Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism) shared: “When coming to Hanoi, tourists will have options to explore the city by bicycle. Bicycle tours can help discover historical sites, heritage, rural areas, ecological zones, craft villages, or even experience street food products.” This wide range of experiences available through bike tourism underscores its versatility and appeal to a diverse group of travelers.

On each bicycle ride, visitors will not only find scenic beauty but also gain a deeper understanding of the local culture. Bike tourism is not just an alternative travel form but also brings sustainable value to society, aligning with Vietnam’s green tourism development goals. By embracing bike tourism, Hanoi is contributing to the promotion of sustainable, eco-friendly travel while offering tourists a more enriching and health-conscious way to explore the city.
