Kicking Off Spring Festival Season
Hanoi welcomed around 1 million tourists during the 9-day Tet holiday in 2025, an increase of 6% compared to the previous year. Of this, international visitors reached 142,000, up 15.8%, while domestic tourists accounted for 859,000, a 5% rise. The total tourism revenue was estimated at 3.53 trillion VND, up 7.85% year-on-year. On the 3rd day of Tet (January 31, 2025), Hanoi recorded 116,440 visitors, an 8.5% increase from the previous year, with 18,440 international tourists (up 12.76%) and 98,000 domestic visitors (up 5.38%). The estimated tourism revenue for that day was 420 billion VND.
A Bustling Spring Festival with Vibrant Cultural Events
International tourists came to Hanoi from major markets like China, South Korea, Taiwan (China), the US, the UK, Malaysia, India, Germany, France, and Japan. According to Dang Huong Giang, Director of Hanoi’s Department of Tourism, tourism businesses had thoroughly prepared in advance with many exciting programs, contributing to attracting large numbers of visitors to explore, shop, and experience various attractions. Numerous vibrant cultural events occurred throughout the holiday, enriching the tourists’ experience and promoting traditional culture, turning culture into a driving force for economic development, especially the tourism sector.
Major Events Celebrating Tet and the Spring Festival Season

Lunar New Year
Prominent programs included “Tet Lang Viet 2025” at Mong Phu Village (Duong Lam Ancient Village, Son Tay), “Sac Xuan At Ty 2025” at Ho Guom Cultural Information Center, and “Tet Viet – Tet Pho 2025” at Phung Hung Mural Street. These activities offered visitors a chance to immerse themselves in the traditional Tet atmosphere of the North and enjoy unique cultural values.
Large-scale art performances also drew attention, such as “Ruc Ro Thang Long 2025” at My Dinh National Stadium and F1 Racetrack (Nam Tu Liem District) from 8 p.m. on January 28 to 2 a.m. on January 29, 2025, as well as performances to welcome the new year at Ngoc Son Temple, Lac Long Quan Park, Van Quan Lake, and Thien Duong Bao Son Park.
Additionally, Hanoi kicked off the traditional spring festival season with major events such as the Huong Pagoda Festival (with the opening ceremony and announcement of the city-level tourist site on the 6th day of Tet), the Soc Temple Festival, Co Loa Festival, Dong Da Hill Festival, and the Hai Ba Trung Temple Festival. To boost tourism activities at the start of the year, the Hanoi Department of Tourism, in collaboration with the Hai Ba Trung District People’s Committee
Organized the “Hanoi Tourism Welcomes 2025” program at the Hai Ba Trung temples, pagodas, and communal houses, and the “Spring Friendship 2025” program in Me Linh district. These events are key parts of Hanoi’s strategy to promote, advertise, and stimulate tourism in 2025, promising a lively and successful year for the city’s tourism industry.
